Tosyn Oseni: Nigeria in 1 Week
So in honor of a sister and mentor Ewar (Adenike Ogungbe), I decided to take a 1 week break from commenting on issues on social media. I was deeply shocked at the death of an inspiration such as Ewar who has now taken her bundle of talents and beauty into the grave yard. It’s very difficult to inspire me but Ewar was one of the few ladies who inspired me. Like she tweeted, Even though I don’t understand, I trust now that she is good and God is good.
Let me start by pointing out that Nigerian Youths need to prioritize, we can’t sit back in our homes and be more concerned about BBA than we are concerned about PDP’s activities in Aso-rock. Like Martin Luther king Jr. said “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter”. Many times I almost came out of my 1 week tweet exile to comment, as many raging issues occurred within this period… First, I heard about the massacre of about 25 lovely young Nigerians who should be the future of the Nation by HIS siblings and just about when I thought the nation would be in serious mourning and that this singular event should rejuvenate our call on the president for action, I was wrong as one Lekan dude who thinks he is a bad ass chose this sad period to display on twitter a screen munch of a private conversation he had with one Tinuola over their negotiations for sex. Nigerian youths promptly forgot about the killing of about 40 future leaders and instead decided to breathe life to Lekan’s immoral activities; some were even hailing him and castigating the lady. It was a shock to me that even though we joined Lekan in remorselessly ignoring the bloodletting of over 40 potential presidents of Nigeria and talents in Yobe, we refused to ask Lekan why in the first place he would demand for sex from girl who asked him for help and if that was all about their conversation….
While lekan’s issue was still raging, Pius Adesanmi’s write up surfaced on the internet, it was a mind blowing piece. Even though I disagree with some of his views on the two major characters in the article, I cannot but agree with his observation on the Nigerian youths on social media (otherwise known as voltrons). It is not a bad idea to defend someone as I have in time past had course to defend some of my political icons who I strongly believe in their records and ideologies and will defend them anytime I deem fit. However, what is of major concern is how the voltrons form their defense. It was shocking to find out that that the same thing Pius accused us of was the same thing we came back on twitter to do. The voltrons rained abuses on those who refused to share their views and some even cursed Pius for daring to write such an article. Haba!!! I at least expected The Nigerian youth to learn from this piece. Sometimes, the way we go about defending our political icons does a huge damage to their personality and is sometime a bad selling strategy…
Then the joke of my 1 week leave on twitter came when it was announced that the presidency had signed a peace pact with the hitherto faceless siblings of Mr. President who a day earlier he had attained the mantle of a spiritual leader and declared they would be going to hell. I consider this a joke as I am not aware that pacts can be signed with faceless groups or at what point did these folks gain a face??? Was it after the massacre of 40 citizens??? I thought all along that only MEND had a face in the likes of Asari… Or could it be that the FG was busy playing politics with a security issue when they described them as a faceless group??? Particularly, who signed the Peace Pact on their behalf with FG and where was it signed??? Well in any ways, its great news for the Nation if the pact has truly been signed at least we can have some peace and rest from the weekly waste of innocent lives by the President’s Brothers and sisters.
Just when I thought the jokes were over, I read Prisoner Bode’s joke in an interview with vanguard where he described Fashola, Tinubu, Aregbesola and even highly revered World Bank Economist Oby Ezekwesili as failures… It beats my imagination how an ex convict would have no shame and be seen commenting on critical national issues where he has been tested and he gloriously failed and issues upon which he was jailed… I would agree though from Bode’s point of view that these guys have failed by not looting the economy like he did when he was in government. So I agree the four of them are failures when it comes to being corrupt and bad governance. It’s worth noting however that PDP defines a successful person as a corrupt person who can successfully mismanage and siphon at least N100bn when in government. A perfect model of the PDP success story is convict Bode George himself.
Did Uncle Bode crack the last of the jokes??? Hell no, 5 PDP Rivers Assembly members acting upon directives from the JANGician in Aso Rock redefined mathematics, they proved to us that 5 members can form a quorum in an assembly of about 32 members. Blood was later to flow but did I hear you say the Amaechi members got it wrong by beating their five colleagues??? Well, “IN MY OPINION”, when you come out to prove to Nigerians how 5 folks can form a quorum in a house of 32 members, you probably deserve to be severely beaten.
Meanwhile to wrap it all up, I unconsciously unfollowed Ewar on twitter almost immediately I heard about her death but then followed back an hour later hoping to see a tweet from her that she is still alive and that her death is a rumor. Even though she has been committed to Earth, I am still waiting for that tweet from @EwarMakeovers confirming that her death is a rumor but until then “Rest in Peace Adenike Ogungbe” ….
